Question 5:

How did you attract/address your Audience?

In order to to attract the target audience I had to work on each page (the Front Cover, Double Page Spread and the Contents Page). When creating my Music Magazine I had to make the Front Cover the main priority as that was what the consumers would see first and with the use of Linguistic language and font layout I was able to entice the audience into purchasing my product. I have used fonts that I felt were appropriate enough to encourage the audience to be interested in picking up the product and then by viewing the front cover deciding to further purchase the product I had created.

The linguistic language I used was Standard English as I thought that the use of Street Slang was inappropriate, it generally includes the use of swear words and other vulgar language. This magazine is aimed at R&B Consumers. I also thought that my target audience would not have been that appealed if I included vulgar language. In my tone of address I have used Standard English along with a direct address as I did not want to give the wrong impression to members of the public. I have also used an abbriviation in the text I have written, for example the word "Gig" is a form of colloquilal language that we use in our everyday language I believe this is appropriate as this is the type of language that is used in music magazines.

In order to attract my target audience to my product I have specifically designed for example the front page in a balanced and contemporary manner. By structuring the layout so that the image of my model was in the centre of the page this allowed the audience to have something to focus on. To attract the audience I was aiming to appeal I had used the models costumes to work as a symbolical fashion piece, as I knew that the audience would be eager to purchase a magazine to be able to view what their favourite celebrity is wearing. Whereas for other accessories such as jewellery I feel that it was not essential that I used them.

Another aspect I would like to address would be the fact that the models I had chosen were within my target audience's age range. I personally believe that this appealed the target audience also that the audience could identify with the models due to being around about the same age. In order to attract a male audience I have used these models as they are attractive and I believe this would pursuade them into purchasing the magazine.

I believe that by photographing this model in a location that was filled with Graffiti this helped indicate to my target audience that even celebrities can be from the working class backgrounds hanging out on the streets. When deciding a location I had chosen this one as it is modern and run down and this I feel is appealing as it is a contrast to what an audience generally will see in a music magazine, as the artificial lighting they use makes the model look almost fake and un-natural.

When focusing on the design of the pages I had taken inspiration from previous music magazines I had either purchased or viewed online by using a search engine to view images. The design of the page was my way of enticing the audience into purchasing my music magazine as by placing the model in the centre of the page's layout this made the Front Page more eye-catching and presentable for the consumer. I focused on what was in the magazine in order to attract the audience as Brand Loyalty is one of the most important aspects consumers are more appealed into purchasing a magazine that has the same manufacturer.

The most important thing was selecting the right kind of font to use for my magazine as this was the crucial aspect that made the magazine attractive and eye-catchingly easy to read. This was important as by using a San Serif font it made my magazine more modern and attractive. The image below is an example of Masthead font I used, in order to make the Masthead stand out I have used an enlarged font called Oxygen as it is modern and bold.

Whereas in the image above is an example of the Lemon Drop font I have used for the coverlines. I decided to use this specific font as it is bold and so that the audience could easily see what was the most important information. I have used two different fonts to appeal my target audience.

However in the image on the left hand side there is an example of the font I used for the least important information.  This font was called Cooper Black I incorporated this font because it was modern and simplistic.
