How does your media product represent particular social groups?
During the preproduction stage I have conducted a questionnaire in which acquaintances could answer. By posting this on a social networking website I was able to get my findings in a quick and easy manner as it was done virtually. By doing an online questionnaire I was able to recieve a more detailed responce from the people I had previously questioned due to the fact that by using a social networking website it allowed me to get a direct and accurate response of what genre they wanted to have on the magazine itself. Whereas if I decided to use a traditional sheet survey I would have had to ask questions that only required a tick in the appropriate boxes.

In order to create a media product that represented the social group I chose to base my work on I created a survey and a questionnaire in the preproduction stage of my work. I was able to virtually upload a questionnaire onto a popular social networking site for example by using social networking websites such as Myspace or Facebook it enabled me to survey a small selection of friends (around three or four people).

However to consolidate the results I have used a Microsoft excel spread sheet software to create pie charts from the information I had perviously collected from the people questioned. My media product represents a variety of different social groups however it focuses on one kind of music in particular and that being people within the late teenage age range to early twenty's.
On the left hand side are Screen Grabs from several conversations I had with people on Skype about what music genre they would prefer. By the facial expressions of the models I used I managed to portray them with a more aggressive side showing that RnB is not exactly as it uses artists posing in this manner to create a sense of the artist being dominant and having control especially if the photograph was taken at a low angle. Also by incorporating aspects of the Indie genre that emphazises a lot the way the artists behave, as they are always shown in an aggressive manner (usually looking away from the camera this makes the seem like they do not care at all that the photograph is being taken).
By analysing this I was able to see what they preferred having within the music magazines content. I thought this was an insightful thing to do as by surveying people online made this process quick and easy. The costume the female model was wearing is the average style of clothing that teenage girls that listen to R&B wear. The female audience would usually wear skirts or colourful crop tops. The costume my model was wearing was quite controversial as it challenges conventions as women generally on as usually on the Front Cover of the Magazine you see women in quite provocative outfits whereas I have challenged conventions as I have kept my model covered up in clothing that is still respectful and yet accentuates her figure.

A problem that I faced was when I relied on my friends to turn up so that I could take the photographs needed for the music magazine I was working on, they failed to turn up at the allocated time we had arranged to meet forcing me to organise the photoshoot with other people. This was why I did not have the models I originally wanted to use. I believed that the use of props was unnecessary, as the main model I used was a teenage boy which I decided to use that to my advantage as the target audience I was aiming at were teenage girls. Her image would appeal a wider range of male audience the female as by viewing the front cover and seeing a male celebrity the female members of the audience would be more likely to purchase this magazine.
