In what ways does your Media Product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real Media Products?
In order to create a music magazine I had to look at existing media products as part of my planning and research this enabled me to find aspects of existing magazines that I liked and gave me ideas of what I would like to use in my own music magazine.
Whilst researching on music magazine I decided to a convenience store which sold music magazines and look at magazines that inspired me. After purchasing the magazines that I had found inspirational I was then able to have an idea of the layout I preferred. I took inspiration from these existing music magazines "Mixmag" Issue 246 and "Songlines"Issue 80.
For the Music magazine I have been creating I have decided to challenge media conventions through the use of photography and the use of an unconventional layout. By deciding to challenge conventions I have shown that I can be creative in the way I have designed this product. Another factor that contributed in the unconventional layout was that the model I had chosen to as the face of the magazine was not part of the stereotypical portrayal of an R&B music magazine as the model was in fact a caucasian female.
When photographing my model I have used a medium close up which demonstrated that the celebrity was approachable. The use of a photograph at this angle portrays that this celebrity may have a vulnerable side to her. However in contrast with popular rock music magazine such as Kerrang there is a use of long shot photographs of the band members looking slightly angury.
As for deciding on what would be the appropriate mode of address this was the aspect that I found easy as all I had to do was think of my target audience and what they would prefer. This being that my target audience were in the age range which ranged from young adults (17 year olds) to people in their early twenties. I had chosen to use standard English as they are unlikely to purchase a music magazine which used Slang terminology. Also by sticking to traditional conventions in which the magazines journalists spoke directly to the audience this allowed me to write using first person.
