Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

On the front cover page of the music magazine my first priority was create an effective linguistic layout by choosing fonts that were appealing and appropriate enough to encourage the audience to be interested in picking up the product and then by viewing the front cover deciding to further purchase the product I had created . The linguistic language I used was Standard English as I thought that the use of swear words was inappropriate as this magazine was composed for the RnB listeners and I thought that they would not have been that appealed if I included vulgar language. Also I did not want to give the wrong impression to the people that would be evaluating my work.

This meant that there were no colloquialisms used as the language I used was mainly informal but not too colloquial as I have not used slang words. I used alliteration within the contents page as I thought that it was appropriate. In which I have further explained in the diagram below of the contents page I have done previously.

To attract the audience to my product I used models that were around about the same age range as the target audience as I knew that the target audience would be more appealed if they saw someone that they could relate to for example by the age, style.

The models I believe are quite similar clothing style to the audience I was aiming at. Which would appeal to the sense of style of the fan base as their clothing style is mainly based on the RnB genre. I analyzed this when I chose the two male models as by evaluating their dress code I realized that one of the male models I photographed was wearing baggy low wasted jeans is a quite casual way of dressing that is also a well known accessories used within the RnB social group.

The non verbal communication of my models was expressed through the way that my models were posing, as their poses expressed a quite a laid back manner giving the impression that the audience could approach them even though the way they posed seemed slightly aggressive. An example of this would be the model on the double page spread was looking at the camera although her body is facing away from the camera this shows that she does not want to be there through her body language conveying that she has a little bit of attitude.

The colours all four of the models were wearing quite dark colours (black top and navy cardigan or grey hoody). The hair styles of the guys were average probably was done by a barber that they always go to showing that teenage boys that listen to RnB take pride in their appearance and the sense of style. On the other hand the two female teenagers seem to go for the more conventional manner of styling their hair as they want to look more attractive and sensible at the same time. These factors all have contributed in I have attracted the audience because I chose four attractive young adults to represent my product.

To attract my audience I chose a combination of colours that worked well together by doing this I managed to create a magazine that looked appealing as it had a continuous colour scheme that continued throughout the magazine. I also used close ups of the models and a combination of long shots and medium close ups to appeal the audience into purchasing the product I was selling and the different camera angles showed the importance of the models as it emphasized the models more making them look more eye-catching (as they were the key focus of the page).
